Bush walks

We offer a selection of walks, all of which can be tailored to your fitness level and interests. Typically you are driven to your chosen area and walk, with a guide, from there. In the interests of safety, the safari vehicle follows in your wake.

The Out of Africa Walk

Features the open savannah plains where plains game, zebra, Rothschild’s giraffe, eland and buffalo are regular sightings.

Departure time: 9am and 4 pm
Duration: 1 hour
Suggestion: can be combined with a bush breakfast

The Elmenteita shoreline walk

Atmospheric and unique, this walk offers the opportunity of a close encounter with the thousands of flamingo that typically visit the lake. Also to see the lava islands that represent the only breeding ground for the great white pelican in Kenya.

The excursion begins with a leisurely game drive across the conservancy, passing through one of its delightful acacia forests, where encounters with the endangered Rothschild giraffe or a leopard are not uncommon.

Departure time: 9am and 4 pm
Duration: 2 hours inclusive of a game drive to the lake

The guided bird walk

Your chance to experience the stunning variety and beauty of the conservancy’s birdlife, which features 450 species. This walk includes the services of a professional safari guide and provision of accurate bird lists.

Departure time: 9am and 4 pm
Duration: 1 hour Booking: Please inform reception well in advance

The Botanical Trail

Our botanical trail will take you from the lodge along a ridge that is home to unique indigenous tree species. Your guide will describe the trees and their medicinal uses through the ages by local communities.
Your walk will begin from the lodge and meander down to the plains passing through shady acacia groves before leading back along the lava ridges to the lodge. On the way back you can either climb back up to the lodge or have one of our vehicles pick you up.

Departure time: 9am and 4 pm
Duration: 1 hour bush walks; 2 hours for Lake walk with game drive to the lake, 1 ½ hours for the botanical trail
