Opened in early 2012, The Sleeping Warrior Eco Lodge stands high on a volcanic hill known as Mawe Mbili (Two Stones). Commanding stunning views over the private Soysambu Conservancy towards UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lake Elementaita, it was designed and built by the Damon family and is run by Jacqueline Damon.
On top of the hill stands the stone-built reception, lounge and dining room, below which is a stone terrace with fire-pit, a safari bar and extensive landscaped gardens.
Below, a track snakes through the acacia to the landscaped terraces where the ten wide-spaced natural stone cottages look out across an addictive view of Africa as she used to be. Kidney-shaped, and thickly thatched, each features an impeccably presented net-draped bed, a seating area, bathroom and outshot deck.
Accessible to guests, is an infinity pool overseeing the magnificent landscape of the conservancy and a bar for refreshments.
The Sleeping Warrior Eco Lodge welcomes children of all ages. Special children’s meals & activities, including baby-sitting, can be provided – please advise our reception staff as to your requirements.
The Sleeping Warrior Eco Lodge is powered entirely by solar electricity. The water is heated by sustainably harvested Leleshwa wood, gathered by the Turkana in areas serving as fire breaks. The majority of the furniture is made from re-cycled cedar poles, once used for fencing on the colonial ranch.
